Art Van Buys Mattress World Chain
May 12, 2011Art Van Furniture is purchasing Mattress World, the Howell, Mich.-headquartered chain of 28 stores in Michigan and Indiana. It marks the furniture giant's first foray outside of Michigan in the company's 52-year history.
Privately owned Art Van did not release the purchase price. The Mattress World stores -- which include one across the street from Art Van's Warren headquarters -- will retain its approximately 100 employees. The Mattress World name will remain for at least the next 60 days, while the impact of the acquisition is assessed.
