Fire at Former Thomasville Furniture Plant

A fire Thursday evening at the former Thomasville Furniture Industries Plant B in Thomasville, N.C., caused minor damage to the building that city officials previously requested to be demolished, said Thomasville Fire Battalion Chief Derek Medlin.

Firefighters with the Thomasville Fire Department were dispatched to a fire at 308 Fisher Ferry St. at about 6:30 p.m.

Thomasville Wants Former TFI Plant Gone

Thomasville officials are urging a real estate company to maintain responsibility and demolish a former manufacturing facility near downtown.

Representatives of Schwarz Properties, LLC, of Asheboro, have said for months that they intend to destroy the 100-year-old factory at 310 Fisher Ferry St.; however, the company has yet to start the demolition ball swinging. The old factory, which once belonged to Thomasville Furniture Industries and was known as Plant B, is partly demolished and has obvious damages to its outer structure.

A Tuesday fire damaged a La-Z-Boy furniture store's warehouse, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported.
