West Elm Market Goes for General Store Feel

Home furnishings retailer West Elm, part of the Williams-Sonoma family of brands, is bringing back the concept of the general store.

Reviving the feel of a small-town store that sold everything, West Elm Market is a modern-day version of the general store. The concept features kitchenware, gardening tools, basic hardware and the list goes on.

The first store is open in Dumbo, the Brooklyn, N.Y., neighborhood. Other outlets are planned for Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Nashville, Tenn., Seattle, Toronto and Costa Mesa, Calif.

Williams-Sonoma, Inc.'s younger, hipper home furnishings chain West Elm is branching out, the company has announced. Tomorrow will mark the launch of West Elm Market, a retail concept that will act as "a total home toolkit," the company stated, by providing consumers with product from four critical categories: Kitchen, Garden, Care & Repair and Personal Care.
