AHFA Asks Members to Contact Legislators
February 2, 2009
The American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA) sent out an e-mail Friday asking members to contact their Senators to express opposition to proposed changes to COBRA coverage that are part of an economic stimulus package under consideration this week.
AHFA said several provisions have been inserted in the proposed stimulus packages relating to COBRA that would negatively affect members' insurance costs. In sum, terminated employees over 55 years of age or with at least 10 years of service are to be offered COBRA until they are 65 years of age or until they get another job with insurance coverage.
AHFA and other groups are working to get these two provisions removed from the legislation, which the Senate is deliberating now. AHFA has provided a suggested text for a letter expressing members' desire to have their Senators oppose these provisions, and a contact list with Senators' phone numbers and e-mail addresses.
