Ashley Furniture Lays Off Around 5% of Mississippi Work Force

Ashley Furniture, Arcadia, Wis., will lay off around 200 employees at its upholstery plants in Ecru and Ripley, Miss., the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported Friday.
Ashley still has more than 3,500 employees in Mississippi according to Brent Koslo, Ashley’s vice president of upholstery operations, who told the paper employees were notified last week they didn’t have to return to work on Monday.
Ashley blamed the layoffs on the need to remain competitive in the face of flat home furnishings sales.
