Spring Air CEO Resigns
Bob Hellyer Resigns CEO Post at Spring Air, the Nation’s Fourth-Largest Maker of Innerspring Mattresses
September 2008
Spring Air, Tampa, the nation’s fourth-largest innerspring mattress maker, announced Wednesday that Bob Hellyer has resigned as CEO after a little more than a year in the job. The announcement said that during a CEO search the company will be led by Executive Vice President of Sales Kevin Damewood and COO Steve Cumbow as part of a newly formed office of the chairman.
Under the new structure, Damewood will oversee sales and marketing, and Cumbow will supervise finance, manufacturing, logistics and administration. The company had recently begun a CEO search process and is speaking with several candidates from inside and outside the mattress industry.
Hellyer, a former Simmons president, was tapped to lead Spring Air in June 2007 when H.I.G. Capital merged Spring Air with its biggest licensee, Consolidated Bedding, to create a $400 million company.
