CORT Furniture Rental Expands Internationally

CORT Acquires Firm in United Kingdom

January 2008
CORT, a Fairfax, Va., provider of rental furniture to companies and individuals, announced Monday that it has expanded internationally with the acquisition of Roomservice Group, the United Kingdom’s leading furnishings provider.

CORT, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is the nation’s leading provider of rental furniture to trade shows and events. It calls itself a leading provider in the “rent-to-rent” furniture industry, and it customer base includes more than 80 percent of Fortune 500 companies. Terms of the deal to acquire Roomservice were not disclosed. It’s the first international acquisition in CORT’s 35-year history, but Roomservice has been a member of CORT’s global partner network, which covers 50 countries.

CORT President Jeff Pederson said the purchase “clearly demonstrates our commitment to developing our global network of furniture solutions and relocation services. We believe our new U.K. operation will be ideally positioned to capitalize on a number of growth sectors, including the increased interest in institutional ownership of residential property.”
