World Market Center Adds “Designer Days” to Summer Market

Designer Days Series at Las Vegas Furniture Market Will Cater to Design Community

The upcoming Las Vegas Market, July 28-August 1, will dedicate a series of educational and entertainment events for the design trade called “Designer Days.” The series is scheduled for Wednesday through Friday of market. The World Market Center already has a “First Friday” designer event scheduled year-round.

Designer Days events include:

• The Forecast Series: The Art of Lighting for Homes with Randall Whitehead, Wed., July 30, 10 a.m., World Forum, WMC-B 16th floor. Attendees will learn how lighting can influence a space positively and negatively, enhance color and texture, emphasize depth or dimension and combine comfort with drama.

• The Many Scales of Green, Wed., July 30, 2 p.m., Las Vegas Design Seminar Room, WMC C-316. Susan S. Szenasy, Metropolis magazine’s long-time editor-in-chief and advocate of green design, will examine the current green movement.

• One Good Chair International Design Awards, Wednesday, July 30, 3 p.m., WMC C-316. A panel of judges will announce the winning design of a new kind of “eco-chair” that focuses first and foremost on form by transforming the very nature of the chair.

• Design in Common: Global Trends in Today’s Residential Interiors, with Mary Gilliatt, Thursday, July 31, 11 a.m., World Forum, WMC-B 16th floor. What influences on residential interior design are unifying people from Auckland to Dubai, Sydney to Provence and London to Milan to Manhattan? A wine and cheese reception will follow, withg signed copies of Gilliatt’s newest book, “Bedrooms: Creating and Decorating the Room of Your Dreams.”

• Evolution: The Architecture and Interiors of Historic Las Vegas Resorts, with Libby Lumpkin, PhD, Director of the Las Vegas Art Museum and Brain Paco Alvarez, Las Vegas News Bureau Photo & Film Archives, Thursday, July 31, 1 p.m., World Forum, WMC-B 16th floor. A guide through a fascinating slide show of rare, archival photographs of the interiors of iconic, mid-century Las Vegas resort architecture.

• Design Icon featuring Larry Laslo, Thursday, July 31, 2:30 p.m., WMC C-316. The second installment of World Market Center Las Vegas’ Design Icon Series will honor Larry R. Laslo, whose legendary interior landscapes has been showcased in top interior design and architecture publications around the world.

• First Friday, featuring Roger Thomas, executive vice president of design, Wynn Design and Development, Friday, Aug. 1, 9:30 a.m., WMC C-316. Roger Thomas is the creative genius behind the world-famous Bellagio and Wynn hotels in Las Vegas, and he will take attendees through the creative process and execution of the one the world’s finest hotels: Wynn Las Vegas.
