Ethan Allen Cutting More Jobs
February 25, 2009Ethan Allen, Danbury, Conn., said it is cutting 110 jobs at two factories in Vermont and 80 positions at a North Carolina facility.
The company, which reported a second-quarter profit of $5.5 million in January, announced earlier this year that it is shutting a Pennsylvania factory and closing several retail service centers to eliminate about 350 jobs.
Following the cuts, Ethan Allen will have 600 workers at factories in Beecher Falls, Vt., and Orleans, Vt., and 300 in Old Fort, N.C.
In published reports, a company spokeswoman attributed the job cuts to reduced sales in a tough economy. She said 65 percent of the company's production is in the United States, and the company hopes to increase that percentage modestly in the future.
