Damage at Upstate N.Y. Ashley Store
February 17, 2009A furnace malfunction caused water damage at an Ashley Furniture Homestore in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the Press Republican of Plattsburgh reported on Sunday.
What was originally reported as a severe natural-gas leak turned out to be a malfunctioning furnace that led to water damage at a downtown business. Press-Republican, Plattsburgh, N.Y.
Firefighters came to the store after an employee who was opening the store Sunday morning smelled gas. The building's steam-heat furnace had been continuously firing and overheating, setting off sprinklers in the basement, a fire department official said, resulting in water damage to some furniture and a couple inches of water on the basement floor.
