Damage at Upstate N.Y. Ashley Store

February 17, 2009
A furnace malfunction caused water damage at an Ashley Furniture Homestore in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the Press Republican of Plattsburgh reported on Sunday.

What was originally reported as a severe natural-gas leak turned out to be a malfunctioning furnace that led to water damage at a downtown business. Press-Republican, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Firefighters came to the store after an employee who was opening the store Sunday morning smelled gas. The building's steam-heat furnace had been continuously firing and overheating, setting off sprinklers in the basement, a fire department official said, resulting in water damage to some furniture and a couple inches of water on the basement floor.
