HomeLinkDelivery Names VP, Regional Management

October 28, 2009
Bill Stone has joined San Juan Capistrano, Calif.-based logistics and home delivery service provider HomeLinkDelivery as vice president of sales. In addition, David Heckmann and Brian Higgins have been appointed director of operations, respectively for the Southwest and Northeast regions.

In his new position at HLD, Stone will spearhead business development efforts to increase the companies market share for home furnishings delivery.

Stone began his career in the home delivery industry when Fleisher recruited him away from a marketing position at Huffy Corporation in 1988 to work in sales for Chicago-based Merchants Home Delivery Corporation. After 10 years at Merchants, Stone built and sold one of the nation's top performing bicycle shop chains before moving back to home delivery as director of business development for Affinity Logistics, where he added more than $30 million in new business for the company.

HLD President and CEO Robert Fleisher said Stone's decision to join the company comes at a critical time of opportunity in the industry.

"There's no doubt that retailers and home delivery businesses are facing the most challenging times in recent history," he said. "This is exactly the time that entrepreneurial companies like ours pull out all stops and take advantage of the opportunities while the market consolidates to fit the economy."

Heckmann brings more than 17 years experience in home and commercial delivery management to oversee operations for HLD clients across California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas. Heckmann began his career managing third party logistics and home delivery operations for companies such as Best Buy, Heilig Meyers and Circuit City. Following his tenure as an account manager with Merchants Home Delivery Service, Heckmann spent 14 years in moving and storage, and the logistics side of the Los Angeles entertainment industry with Burbank-based Western Studio Service/Academy Moving and Storage. Progressing to vice president of organizational development, Heckmann played an integral role in managing $12 million in annual billings and 1.7 million feet of storage space for the nation's largest independent studio transfer and storage company.

Previously an account manager for the HLD's "Macy's" operation in Edison, N.J., Higgins managed deliveries for the retailer's largest single home delivery operation in the country. In his new role, Higgins is responsible for managing all HDL accounts and operations in more than 15 states in the Northeast. Accounts include Macy's operations in New Jersey, Baltimore and Boston. Higgins also will manage delivery operations for Sears in Rochester, N.Y. In addition to supervising HLD account managers and assistant account managers, Higgins will oversee a network of delivery owner operators across the region.
