July 2008
Following are some of the new and expanded showrooms and activities at next week’s Las Vegas Market.
• Kuka Home
Upholstery vendor Kuka Home makes its North American debut in spaces C-1401 and C-1452 of Building C. Kuka Home is a vertical furniture manufacturer with two factories totaling 2.5 million square feet, integrating leather tanning, polyurethane foam manufacturing, product research and development, furniture production and retail through its 700-plus store company-owned and franchised Kuka branded chain.
Although exporting for just three years, Kuka already counts upon North America for 40 percent of total sales, Europe for 32 percent, Australia/New Zealand for 14 percent and the Middle East for 11 percent. Kuka’s retail customers include Crate & Barrel, Sears/Kmart, Pier One, Marshalls/TJ Maxx, Rooms to Go, Bloomingdales, Z Gallerie, Cost Plus World Market, El Dorado Furniture and Sears Canada.
The company produces upholstered furniture, occasional chairs, upholstered beds, dining chairs, barstools, ottomans, benches and storage with all available in leather, fabrics and microfiber, and leather-wrapped wall mirrors.
• NaturesCast
A Las Vegas-based company that uses a unique process to create modern, environmentally friendly furniture and home décor accessories, is opening its first permanent showroom in two spaces in World Market Center’s Building C, C-05740 and C-785.
The NaturesCast product line is created using agro-forest waste including dry leaves, dead twigs and barks from the forests around Compostela, Province of Cebu, Philippines. The collected materials are shredded through a special machine and bonded together using an odorless water-based binder and then shaped into a variety of unique and functional forms.
NaturesCast® has over 100 different contemporary products currently available in North America including vases, tables, lamps, table accents, trays, bowls, frames, couches, chairs, stools and more. All products come in a variety of colors including natural, black, RC tone, brown and two-tone.
• Soflex
Leather resource Soflex expands its direct container program with lower prices and an additional 7,500-square-foot space, B-965, across the hall from the existing showroom in B-960.
Tom Schmidt, president of Soflex, said, “The growth and success of our ‘Soflex Quick Ship Warehouse Program’ has provided the Soflex factory excellent manufacturing efficiencies and cost reductions. With market conditions the way they are, we know retailers are looking for high-value merchandise at a great price. Strategically, we felt it was an excellent opportunity for us to grab some additional market share by lowering our prices and expanding our direct container program.”
Schmidt said Soflex is as anxious to grow direct-container business as aggressively as the warehouse program it introduced a year ago in Las Vegas.
