Mattress Man Chain Laid to Rest

January 2, 2009
Mattress Man, a chain of at least seven stores in Northeastern Pennsylvania, has shut its doors. A message for visitors to the retailer's Web site states "Mattress Man is no longer in business," and reports in two newspapers serving the region say the stores are shut and phones have been disconnected at several locations.

One newspaper stated the company had seven stores, but nine are listed on its Web site.

The chain got its start in 1984, and its recent ads described it as the largest Sealy sleep shop in its area. According to its Web site, the company's Pennsylvania stores included Wilkes-Barre, Edwardsville, Moosic, Hazleton, Bartonsville, Scranton and Honesdale. The Web site also showed stores in Vestal, N.Y., and Binghamton, N.Y.
