Census Counting on CORT's Furniture Rentals
February 3, 2009
CORT Fairfax, Va., has been selected to supply more than 165,300 pieces of furniture for 500 U.S. Census Bureau offices nationwide as the agency gears up for the 2010 count.
CORT, a Berkshire Hathaway company, has 90 distribution centers and locations in every major market, and an announcement stated it has a successful record of supporting government and private-sector companies in setting up thousands of offices across the country.
Census officials determined that renting furniture would be the best value after conducting a cost-benefit analysis of options that included purchases of new or refurbished furniture and lease-purchase arrangements. CORT also served the agency during the 2000 census.
"We are confident that when the CORT trucks pull away from the Census office, our teams will be ready to start operations," said Mark Taylor, a former Census employee and current senior management consultant supporting the Census Bureau on the contract. "Working with CORT through the online project management system, we can manage and monitor the project in real time, and effectively communicate any potential obstacles to ensure smooth operations."
