Schneiderman's Closing Original Store
June 11, 2009Schneiderman's Furniture will close its original store, which opened in Meadowlands, Minn., almost 40 years ago, the Duluth News-Tribune reported.
"From a business standpoint, it made sense to close the store," President Larry Schneiderman said in the report. "We've needed to do so for three or four years now, but put it off because it was a tough decision."
With Duluth, where Schneiderman's came in 1982 and opened a new 50,000-square-foot store four years ago, becoming more of a regional retail center, the Meadowlands store didn't attract enough customers, Schneiderman said.
“With the Duluth store and shopping habits changing, it was tough to keep that store open there,” said Stu Lunsford, the Duluth store manager.
The Meadowlands store is holding a going-out-of-business sale this week. Schneiderman's will keep an administrative center in Meadowlands. Schneiderman's also has stores in Plymouth, Lakeville, Roseville and Woodbury, and an outlet and distribution center in Burnsville.
