Furniture First Announces Symposium Speakers
The Furniture First Buying Group Will Hold its Annual Meeting Aug. 19–21 in Chicago

Furniture First, a buying group for independent retailers nationwide, announced the speaker lineup for its Annual Symposium, to be held Aug. 19–21 in Chicago.
With the theme, “New Strategies for Survival and Success,” the event will feature a number of retailers as well as a retail panel discussion and furniture industry panel. Speakers include Henry Terk of The Old Furniture Company in Albany, N.Y., in a presentation focused on increasing profits by using fewer suppliers. Larry Mark of Furniture Warehouse Design Gallery in Beaufort, S.C., will discuss his experiences with Furniture First’s Consumer Web site program. Jeff Winter of Discovery Furniture, Topeka, Ks., will focus on the outcomes of switching from a commission-based sales force to non-commissioned merchandising category experts. Larry Schneiderman of Schneiderman’s Furniture in Minneapolis will present a how-to session on e-mail marketing.
Klaussner’s Karla Groves will discuss appealing to Generation Y consumers and Steve Brower and Bones O’Briant, also of Klaussner, will make a presentation on Simple Elegance Gallery, a private label program. Finally, Britt Beemer of American’s Research group will discuss advertising and marketing strategies that retailers can implement immediately.
In addition, Serta International, sponsor of the Annual Symposium, will offer tours of its revitalized America’s Mattress Store, Mattress 1st program and the company’s headquarters near the Second City.
Furniture First also will be exhibiting at next week’s Las Vegas Market (B-1045).
