Group Envisions High Point Auto Race
Furniture City Motorsports Unveils Vision for IndyCar-Style Street Race in High Point
August 2008
The Furniture Capital of the World may get quite a bit racier as a local group embarks on a bid to bring Indy-style racing to High Point’s downtown streets, according to published reports.
An organization called Furniture City Motorsports held a press conference at Emerywood Country Club Thursday to tout its vision of a temporary street-racing circuit that would offer fast wheel-to-wheel action in the city’s showroom district.
According to newspaper and TV reports, the planners haven’t yet submitted the proposal to High Point’s City Council or gained a firm commitment from a racing organization like IndyCar, which presents an annual street race in Long Beach, Calif., each spring.
