SFC Members Showcased at Grammy Awards

SFC Members’ Furniture, Decor on Hand at 50th Annual Grammy Awards

February 2008
A special area of the Grammy Awards Talent Lounge will showcase environmentally friendly home décor provided by Naturescast, Intérieurs, O Ecotextiles and Christian Rathbone, all members of the Sustainable Furniture Council (SFC). Another member, Santa Monica-based Distinctive Design Company, will design the space. Member Grant Dawson will place an item in the Gift Basket given to the show’s presenters and performers.

All are working with Distinctive Assets, a Los Angeles-based entertainment marketing company collaborating with The Recording Academy to produce the official Talent Gift Bags and Gift Lounge for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. The ceremony will be held Feb. 10, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live, 8–11:30 p.m., on the CBS Television Network.

The Grammy Talent Lounge, presented by Kinerase and featuring Xbox Rock Band, also is open this week during rehearsals.

“We are proud to have our members furnishing and decorating this prestigious location,” said SFC Executive Director Susan Inglis. “They have beautiful products and they have made a profound commitment to sustainability. I am excited that so many people will be introduced to the products and to the concepts.”

Naturescast will debut its modern Club Chair, Club Stool and matching Club Side Table. Naturescast products are made from leaves, twigs and bark, from the forests of The Philippines, which are shredded through a special machine and bonded together using an odorless water-based binder. Local artists shape them into unique and functional objects of home décor.

Christian Rathbone will feature a graceful and bold rug from his Branch Out collection. Rathbone’s “modern orientals” are one-of-a-kinds, made entirely by hand using sheep’s wool and dyes derived from vegetation.

O Ecotextiles will show its indulgent but responsible drapery and upholstery fabric. O Ecotextiles is changing the way textiles are made by proving that it’s possible to produce luxurious, sensuous fabrics in ways that are non-toxic, ethical and sustainable.

The SFC area will be designed by Distinctive Design Co., a specialist in hospitality and high-end residential interior design. DDC uses sustainable design wherever possible and gives a percentage of all profits to local and international charities.

Grant Dawson Collections will contribute letter openers in the shape of slender sea horses, an endangered species, handcrafted in Bolivia from 100 percent lead-free pewter produced in a limited edition exclusively for the show’s celebrity gift baskets.
