Ikea’s Charlotte Store Set for 2009 Opening
Swedish Home Furnishings Giant Ikea Starts Construction on New Store in Charlotte, N.C.

Ikea announced Tuesday that it has secured all necessary permits and has hired construction firms to complete a store in Charlotte, N.C., by the spring of 2009.
The 356,000-square-foot store that will be built on 25 acres in a 175-acre, mixed-used development off Interstate 95 at City Boulevard. It will be Ikea’s 36th store in the United States and among more than 270 worldwide.
“With our land purchased, team selected and permits secured, we are on schedule,” said Michael Maier, Ikea real estate manager. “Construction crews have begun preliminary site work, such as clearing and grading, and we look forward to breaking ground officially in several months.”
Other stores on the drawing board include Brooklyn, N.Y.; Somerville, Mass.; Tampa, Fla.; and West Chester, Ohio.
