Furniture.com, which provides e-commerce capabilities for several retailers, announced Monday that it has hired telecommunications industry executive Morgan Woodruff as chief operating officer. Prior to joining Waltham, Mass.-based Furniture.com, Woodruff was general manager and senior executive vice president of Owera, a telecommunications software company. He was previously vice president of sales and marketing for Global IP Sound. At Furniture.com, Woodruff will be primarily responsible for driving results for clients and new business development. The RoomPlace at Harlem Furniture, Lombard, Ill., has opened its 19th store, the company announced Friday. The new location in Algonquin, Ill., has 31,000 square feet of showroom space. The newest store will offer next-day delivery. The RoomPlace describes itself as the first furniture retailer in the Chicago area to specialize in room groups. It operates three stores in metropolitan Chicago, 14 in the city’s suburbs and two stores in Indiana, including a location that opened earlier this year in Mishawaka, Ind.

Furniture.com Extends E-Commerce To Affiliate Stores

An extranet launched by Furniture.com in November is being used by Toronto-based Leon’s Furniture to enable 21 affiliate stores to sell furniture online, according to a Furniture.com announcement Wednesday. Furniture.com President and CEO Carl Prindle said the extranet was developed for furniture retailers like Leon’s that have networks of independent affiliate stores operating under the retailer’s brand.
