Goods Made From Illegal Wood Might Have to Pay the Piper Stateside

Don’t look now, but “green” might become more than what a lot of furniture manufacturers and retailers these days are saying is the right thing to do. When it comes to using raw materials from questionable sources, it might become the law.
That’s the implication of the proposed Legal Timber Protection Act, officially known as HR 1497, and an amendment to existing legislation that prohibits commerce in illegally sourced wildlife that we reported on recently in our daily electronic newsletter.
The proposal would extend that prohibition to include endangered plants, i.e. wood and wood products. A non-government organization called the Environmental Investigation Agency worked
